Frequently asked questions

EveryPenny is a personal-finance app for iPhone that connects your banks across Europe and Ukraine and shows everything as one total. Here's everything people ask about it.

About EveryPenny

What is EveryPenny?

EveryPenny is a personal-finance app for iPhone that connects your bank accounts across Europe and Ukraine and shows every balance as one total in the currency you think in. It tracks spending, budgets, and savings goals, and detects recurring subscriptions automatically. It is built and run by one independent developer in Kyiv.

Which platforms does EveryPenny run on?

EveryPenny is designed for iPhone, with Lock Screen and Home Screen widgets. There is no Android or web version today — building one excellent iOS app first is a deliberate choice of a one-person team.

Who makes EveryPenny?

EveryPenny is made by Ihor Olkhovyi, a solo developer in Kyiv, Ukraine. There is no growth team and no ad network behind it — the subscription is the entire business model. He reads every email sent to [email protected].

Banks and coverage

Which banks does EveryPenny support?

EveryPenny connects to most major banks across the EEA through Enable Banking's PSD2 open-banking network — including banks in Poland, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Italy, and Spain — plus Revolut and Wise, and Monobank in Ukraine. Anything else can be tracked as a manual account.

Does EveryPenny work with Monobank?

Yes. EveryPenny has a direct Monobank integration for personal accounts in Ukraine. Balances and transactions sync automatically, and hryvnia amounts roll up into your total alongside your other currencies.

Does EveryPenny work with Revolut and Wise?

Yes. Revolut and Wise connect through EEA open banking (PSD2). EveryPenny reads balances and transactions from all your currency pockets — read-only, it can never move money.

Does EveryPenny support UK banks?

Not yet. UK Open Banking requires a separate licence from the EEA one EveryPenny holds. Revolut works for many UK-based users in the meantime, and UK support is on the roadmap.

Can I track cash or accounts that won't connect?

Yes. Manual accounts cover cash, envelopes, and any bank without a connection. You update them by hand and Penny treats them like any other account — included in your total, budgets, and statistics.

Features

How does EveryPenny handle multiple currencies?

EveryPenny converts everything into your preferred currency using live European Central Bank rates — a transaction in złoty, a balance in hryvnia, and a card in euros become one number. Historical exchange rates are snapshotted at transaction time, so last month's statistics don't drift when today's rates move.

How does EveryPenny find my subscriptions?

EveryPenny detects recurring payments automatically by analysing your transaction history — Spotify, Netflix, iCloud, the gym, including duplicates like a second HBO Max account. It shows what they cost together per month and per year. You can mute the ones you don't want reminders about.

Can EveryPenny move my money or make payments?

No. EveryPenny's bank access is read-only under PSD2 — it can see balances and transactions but has no technical ability to initiate payments, transfers, or any changes to your accounts. The permission simply doesn't exist in the connection.

Does EveryPenny have widgets?

Yes. EveryPenny ships Lock Screen and Home Screen widgets for your total balance, top budgets, and savings goals — your numbers are visible before you even unlock the phone.

How do budgets work in EveryPenny?

You set a monthly cap per spending category and Penny watches it. At 80% of a budget you get a quiet heads-up, and another if you cross the line — the surprise never lands at the till.

Pricing

How much does EveryPenny cost?

EveryPenny's Penny+ subscription costs €39.99 per year (about €3.33 a month, with a 7-day free trial), €4.99 per month, or €79.99 once for a Lifetime licence capped at the first 1,000 buyers. The App Store shows your local price.

Is there a free trial?

Yes — the Annual plan starts with 7 days free. Cancel in iOS Settings before day 7 and you pay nothing.

Privacy and security

Is EveryPenny safe to connect to my bank?

Yes. You sign in on your bank's own pages through PSD2-regulated OAuth — EveryPenny never sees your bank password. The resulting read-only token is encrypted with AES-256-GCM under a per-user key, and data is stored in Frankfurt, EU.

Does EveryPenny sell my data or show ads?

No. EveryPenny shows no ads and never sells data — there are no advertisers to sell it to. The subscription pays for the servers and bank connections, and you can delete your account and all its data from inside the app at any time.

Comparisons

How is EveryPenny different from my bank's app?

Your bank's app shows one bank. EveryPenny shows all of them — every bank, card, and currency rolled into one total, with budgets, statistics, and subscription detection that work across accounts. It complements your banking apps rather than replacing them.

Is EveryPenny a good alternative to YNAB or US-centric budgeting apps for Europe?

If you live in Europe or Ukraine, yes — EveryPenny is built EEA-first: PSD2 bank connections, true multi-currency totals with ECB rates, Monobank support, and native English, Ukrainian, and Polish. US-centric tools typically lack European bank sync and treat a second currency as an afterthought.

Is EveryPenny better than a spreadsheet?

EveryPenny was literally built by someone who got tired of spreadsheets. The difference is automation: transactions arrive on their own, exchange rates apply themselves, subscriptions surface themselves. A spreadsheet only knows what you remember to type into it.
